I could nerd out and talk to you for hours about this! To give you the abbreviated version, film is my chosen medium because it requires an intentional, focused approach - each frame is precious because there are a finite number on each roll. In a world of coldly perfect binary images there is a warm and timeless quality to film. The color, grain and occasional imperfection of film interpret the feel of the day . To me its a bit like listening to Nina Simone belting out a throaty ballad on a old LP - the emotion is accentuated by the occasional hiss and pop of the vinyl media.
DO YOU SHOOT FILM FOR EVERY SESSION?
Yes. I shoot with a variety of medium format film cameras but I also photograph with my digital cameras. Depending on the type of shoot it is usually a 40-60 split.
WAIT, IF YOU SHOOT FILM HOW CAN I SHARE MY PHOTOS?
I personally scan my film from each session and will include high resolution digital copies of any film images that make the edit.
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?
I'd say "Fine Art with a heart". I am a painter but went to Art school for Documentary photography. The result of this mixing of visual interests are creative images of real moments.
