a Photographer for free spirits

Hello Free Spirit!

My name is Bethany and like you I march to the beat of my own drum.  I'm a wedding photographer based in San Francisco, although I grew up in Africa where I received my first 35 mm camera at the age of 11.

I specialize in documenting once in a life time moments in film, taking a had crafted artisanal approach to the wedding narrative - showing up to each wedding with my pockets full of film, my heart open and my camera ready.

If you would like to chat with me about your upcoming wedding over a cup of coffee (or something stronger, cause lets be honest planning a wedding can be stressful)  please drop me a line  here

" Bethany was an absolute delight to work with for both our engagement photos as well as our wedding day. We wanted to do something fun and out of the box for our engagement shoot, and she even helped us with props, design and location. It was awesome and memorable!

Our wedding day was one of my favorite days of my life, and thankfully I have the most beautiful (and vintage inspired) photos to show for it. She even created a beautiful coffee table book! If you're looking for someone with an artistic eye, a passion for photography and a love for people, you have found the right person. I would recommend her over and over again!"

"Bethany was fantastic. She was able to help me find the perfect location for my proposal, despite the fact I was in Denver. She was very communicative, empathetic, and caring. I wanted to have a photographer capture the proposal in real time without being spotted. She made that happen in the best way!"

1) Her photos are amazing. Seriously fantastic.
2) She is very communicative and professional.
3) She is crazy affordable for the quality she delivers.

Kris P - Denver CO

I was really nervous about hiring a wedding photographer, because I didn't want typical, run of the mill photos. After my first meeting with Bethany I felt so relieved and excited about having my photos taken by her!

Meeting with Bethany in person immediately showed how much care and attention to detail she brings to her craft. She's a very astute listener, and is able to understand and apply your vision to the process. She even found reference material based on our conversation, which further proved that she understood exactly what I wanted.

Working with Bethany was a breeze. My wedding was a little off the grid, but she had no problem making the trip and arriving early enough to take in the layout of the venue and scope out the best spots for photos. She really put me and my husband at ease during the process and made it really fun to have our photos taken. She was easily able to put other guests at ease, who otherwise don't enjoy having their photos taken.

The result was incredible! She captured all the moments during the ceremony that we wanted to remember, but simply couldn't because of the typical wedding jitters and craziness of the day. The portraits are gorgeous and ready to be printed to be cherished forever. Every time I look at the photos, I feel SO happy. Bethany really went above and beyond to ensure that our photos captured the magic of the day.

Thank you Bethany for your incredible artistry, skill and absolutely fantastic personality!

Why film?

Shooting with film requires an intentional approach. It also keeps you present in the moment and connected to your surroundings because there is no way to review what you just shot.  I love the grain of film, the imperfection of it. There are no throw away shots, each frame is precious.

Do you shoot film for every session?

Yes. I shoot with a variety of medium format and 35mm film cameras but I also photograph images with my digital camera.

can I get my film photographs digitized?

I personally scan my film from each session and will include high resolution digital copies of any film images that make the edit.

Do you offer proposal photography?

Proposals are one of my absolute favorite things to photograph! From picking the perfect scenic spot to adding personal touches specific to your beloved, I will be there to coordinate and capture this special moment taking the logistical stress out of the equation and creating images from this once in a life time moment that she will treasure for years to come.

how many photographs can we expect from our wedding?

This varies, but around 60 images per hour of coverage.

How would you define your style?

I'd say "Fine Art with a heart".  I am a painter but went to Art school for Documentary photography. The result of this mixing of visual interests are artistic, polished images of real moments.

do you offer prints and albums?

Yes! I offer them in addition to your wedding coverage.

Pictures belong in the world and on your walls!

is there a travel fee?

There is no travel fee for weddings in the  San Fransisco / Bay area. Outside of the Bay Area I charge 250 plus expenses.  If you are planning a destination wedding or elopement contact me and we can work something out.

how do I book you to photograph a proposal or wedding?

You can connect with me here or you can send me an e-mail at bethany@bethany.photo

I like to meet in person or via Skype so we can chat and see if we are a good fit.  Then I require a 25% non-refundable deposit to hold your date and a signed contract. Bookings are first-come-first-serve and I cannot reserve your date without a deposit/contract.
